Build Trigger for Jira Documentation

Build Trigger for Jira Documentation

Prerequisites

  • Jira ↔ Bamboo Application Link
Create an Application Link from Jira to Bamboo. Use OAuth (recommended) and verify:

    • The link is incoming + outgoing.

    • The Bamboo base URL matches what users will access.

    • The Jira user who executes the workflow transition can authenticate to Bamboo.

  • Bamboo permissions
The triggering user (via the App Link) must have permission to View the project and Run the target plan.

  • Network access
Jira must be able to reach Bamboo (firewall, proxy, SSL certs if HTTPS).

Configuration

  1. Open the workflow
In Jira: Project settings → Workflows → select the workflow → choose the transition → Post FunctionsAdd post functionTrigger Bamboo Build.

  2. Select the Application Link
Choose the Bamboo link you created.
Tip: If you have multiple links, pick the one that maps to the Bamboo instance hosting your plan.

  3. Enter the Bamboo Project Key
The short key of the Bamboo project (e.g., DEV).
Find it in Bamboo on the project overview page.

  4. Enter the Bamboo Plan Key
    The plan’s key (e.g., BAMBOOPF).
This is not the plan name—use the key shown in the plan header/URL.

  5. Publish the workflow
Save and publish changes. Trigger the transition in an issue to verify a build starts in Bamboo.
